Onwards and Upwards

29th June 2017

After re-watching most of the Rocky films, and almost completing Seinfeld, I am happy to say that I am well and truly on the mend. However, I have found the period of recovery to be mind numbingly mundane. I am not one for sitting down and resting. I find this to be a remarkably over rated pastime. Nevertheless, on the greener hue of grass, I have had a lot of time to read, write, and plan future projects. More to come about future projects soon!

I have also started training again which is a relief. I find that if I don’t practice, even just for a few days, I start to get very agitated. Juggler Pete Matthews refers to juggling as says “my yoga”, and I can totally relate to that. Practice has be interesting. Not only have I felt that my juggling ability has been dented due to the time off, but I have also noticed a massive decrease in my strength and endurance.

I started by doing a couple of very short 15 minute practices in the garden for a few days. Then I moved to the gym to do a full session. Session one was great. I practiced for about an hour, and despite the lack of strength and endurance, I was genuinely chuffed at my ability. Below is a clip of the highlights from the practice.

After this practice, I realised that I think I pushed myself too much. I over did it. I was then aching for a few days and pretty much knocked off my feet. So for the past few days I have been very gradually increasing my practice time and intensity, and embracing my inner geek by charting my progress. This has been very helpful indeed. I think that in a week or so, I’ll be right as rain. Onwards and upwards.

Testimonials

"Juggler, standup comedian, and with a Faustian earned ability to defy the laws of gravity (unsubstantiated, but seriously... how else?), Jon Udry brings a stage show to make any circus ringmaster weep into his lion's mouth. Honestly, the man is like a mix of Bez and Magneto - big-fish-little-fishing his way around the impossible and back again.
